Three Shelby Junior High School FIRST robotics team are taking months of practice and planning on the road this weekend for its qualifying tournament.

We started this year off with a phenomenal recruiting class that exceeded our expectations and goals," said coach Phillip Lewis.

Shelby has 35 students on three teams - Vicious Volts,  Raging Robots and S.W.A.T – Shelby Wildcat Autonomous Techies” - taking part in the FIRST Tech Challenge program.

Students have prepared for the tournament two nights weekly over the past few moths and recently had a kick-off event with Oxford.

"The kids were taught a wealth of information, ranging from Intro to software, gears, levers and arms, Engineering Notebook, REV Components and batteries to name a few," Lewis said.
