On Tuesday, December 13th, join junior high rivals Shelby and Malow as they come together in a charity basketball game at Eisenhower High School to raise money to help UCS families in need through the Hamlin  Holiday Fund.

It all started when Shelby 7th grader Jacob Bommarito asked his gym teacher, Erin Chambers, if she would come to the 1st basketball game of the season.  When Mrs. Chambers found out the game was against Malow, she began to encourage her students to attend in an effort to support the boys and also to “fill the Mustangs’ gym with Wildcats.”

As planning began for a spectator bus to shuttle students to Malow for the game, the idea came up that the two schools could use their rivalry to promote something positive – helping families in our community to have a happy holiday season.  The two schools came together to plan the event, and with the support of Eisenhower Athletics, moved the 7th and 8th grade boys’ basketball games to “the big gym” at Ike.  The season opener for these teams will be like a varsity game – and the boys are excited to have this opportunity.

Donations to the fund have already been made by the Athletic Booster Clubs of Malow and Shelby, and the Ike Athletic Boosters will be donating all concession proceeds earned during the games.

The 7th grade game begins at 4 pm and the 8th grade game follows (approximately 5:30).  As a ‘thank you’ every family that makes a donation at the door (cash or check made payable to Hamlin Holiday Fund) will receive a $5.00 Hamlin bucks card for their generosity.
