Shelby Wildcat FAQs

What time can students enter the building?

Door 1 (main entrance) is open each day at 7:30 am.

Can I bring in items my child forgot?

There is a drop-off table conveniently located in the main office. Simply write your child’s name on the item and it can be picked up at any time. Students will be called to the office via afternoon announcements if items have not been picked up by the end of the day.

Can I get a message to my child?

The office staff will take messages. Students will be called down to the office via afternoon announcements to pick up messages.

How do I report an absence?

Call the attendance line (797-3799) to report an all-day absence or late arrival. If you have called in a late arrival, your child should stop in the main office to sign in before going to class.

How do I arrange an early dismissal?

Please send a note in with your child to request an early dismissal. Students place notes in the early dismissal basket on the counter in the main office before 1st hour and can pick up their early dismissal pass after 1st hour.

Early dismissal requests can be made on the attendance line prior to 9:30 am.

Can I request homework for my child?

Homework requests can be made by calling 797-3790 when a student is absent three or more school days. Homework is generally available for pick up in the counseling office at 3:00 pm.

*Please note – many teachers have websites or use PowerSchool to post assignments*

What is the cell phone policy?

Students may bring cell phones to school, however, the UCS handbook specifies "they cannot be displayed or used without permission from a teacher or administrator for educational purposes." Here at Shelby phones should only be out and in use before and after school, unless a teacher is allowing the use of phones in class for educational activities. Otherwise, phones should be turned off during the school day.

Phones turned into the office for inappropriate use must be picked up by a parent.

What is the dress code?

The UCS handbook indicates, "Student appearance should not be disruptive to the educational process." Please see the student handbook for the complete dress code. In general, students should wear clothing that isn’t revealing or restrictive, as many classroom activities require students to be active.

What if my child gets sick during the school day?

Students who are not feeling well should ask the teacher for a pass to the main office to call a parent. Please remind your child not to call or text you from a cell phone during the school day.
